More Information:In the 1980s, the theater scene in Osaka was full of vitality, and at the small theater in Osaka, theater performances by Kansai theater companies were actively performed. Since then, due to changes in social conditions, such as the outflow of theater companies and human resources due to the successive closure of small theaters in Osaka, and restrictions on activities during the COVID-19 pandemic, the environment surrounding theater was forced into a severe situation. However, despite such changes in the environment, it is said that there are as many as 300 theater companies in Kansai continue to operate.
The Osaka Prefectural, Osaka City, and Osaka Culture and Arts Business Executive Committee will hold the Osaka Theater Festival 2026 with the theme of “connecting” at HEP HALL, the starting point of the small theater boom, creating a place for the theater company to play an active role, and creating a “vertical” connection between the theater company, customers, and stakeholders, as well as the “horizontal” connection between popular actors and creators who created the small theater boom.
