More Information:REST, Japan’s first gallery dedicated to AI art, will host a solo exhibition by Yui titled “Pain to Songs” starting May 12, 2026.

Yui is an artist who weaves the pain and memories buried deep within her heart into “a single story” by combining her own lyrics, her voice, and AI-generated music. Drawing on her own experiences of living with emotional wounds, she creates music that offers comfort to those who are also carrying pain in their hearts.

This exhibition features the song “Self-Harm Dreaming,” which confronts the trauma of sexual violence, along with the lyrics of three other songs that explore themes of pain, wounds, loneliness, loss, and the emotions that drive us to move forward again. The lyrics and the worlds they depict are expressed through AI art.

Wounds that never heal.
Grief that defies words.
The loneliness of not being able to accept oneself.
The pain of losing a loved one.
And yet, the desire to love someone again.

What Yui’s works have in common is an approach that does not deny emotions, but instead transforms them directly into sound and brings them to life as imagery. While dealing with dark and tragic emotions, her expression does not remain confined to despair. Can people move forward even while carrying their wounds? Can pain be turned into song? To what extent can AI truly connect with the deepest parts of human emotion? This exhibition quietly poses these questions.

The images generated by AI are not merely illustrations for the songs. They are an attempt to translate the pain and sense of rebirth embedded in the lyrics into a visual narrative. The human voice, AI music, and AI art—as these elements overlap, Yui’s inner world touches the memories and emotions of each viewer.

Rather than consuming painful experiences as something beautiful, it is about living with those wounds and striving to find love once again beyond them.
“Pain to Songs” is a small yet poignant exhibition of rebirth, transforming pain into song.
