Details:

The Executive Committee of the Project for the Promotion of Classical Performing Arts Centering on Bunraku (Osaka City, Bunraku Kyokai Foundation) will hold “Nakanoshima Bunraku 2024” on October 25 and 26, 2024, at the Osaka Central Public Hall.

This performance will feature four pieces of Bunraku and Nankyoku under the theme of “The Four Seasons of Japan,” bringing the charm of Osaka’s world-class classical performing arts to visitors from overseas.

On Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26, 2024, “Nakanoshima Bunraku 2024” will be held at the Osaka Central Public Hall. In anticipation of the Osaka-Kansai Expo to be held in 2025, this performance will feature four pieces of Bunraku and Nani Kyokyoku plays associated with the “Four Seasons of Japan,” bringing the charms of these genres to visitors from overseas.

First, for the summer program, a new nankyoku piece “Natsu Matsuri Naniwakagami” featuring the “Tenjin Festival,” which is synonymous with summer in Osaka, will be performed by Hayato Mayama (Kyokushi: Sakura Sawamura), a nankyoku master. In the fall, “Sekiji Komachi” from “Hana Koshiki Kotobuki” will be performed in Bunraku, followed by “Hi no Mimiyagura no Dan” from “Date Musume Koi Hikako” in winter, and finally “Dogo Hatsune Tabi” from “Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura” in spring. Projection mapping, one of the features of Nakanoshima Bunraku, will be projected on the stage with a painting by contemporary artist Natsumiko Tanihara.

Please enjoy the “Four Seasons of Japan” that can only be seen in this space. You will also be able to see the expressions of the puppets as the camera zooms in, as well as the powerful performance of Tayu and Shamisen.

In addition, we plan to project contemporary artist Natsuko Tanihara’s paintings onto the stage using projection mapping to visually enhance the “Four Seasons of Japan” experience for Japanese guests and visitors from overseas. Furthermore, during the performance, the camera will zoom in on the beautiful movements of the puppets and the Tayu and Shamisen performances in a powerful way.

In addition, “easy-to-understand Japanese” and English subtitles by broadcaster Hiroaki Higashino will be displayed to directly convey the appeal of Bunraku.

After the performance, the performers will reappear for a photo session. Radio Osaka announcer Takao Fujikawa will serve as the MC.
