The Symphony Hall

Japan’s first hall specifically designed for classical concerts, built as part of the commemorative project of the 30th anniversary of Asahi Broadcasting Corporation in 1982. The Symphony Hall boasts a reverberation time of 2 seconds (with full occupancy), the optimal time for classical music. The hall is an arena theater where all the seats surround the stage, creating seats from which one can study the movements of the conductor or see all the movements of the pianist’s fingers; this allows the listeners to enjoy music visually as well. The Symphony Hall seats 1,704 and has an installed pipe organ crafted by Kuhn Organ Builders of Switzerland (3 keyboards, 54 stops, 3,732 pipes).
