Jyoruri Theatre
In Nose OSAKA, the style of Gidayu composed only of a Dayu and shamisen music, was handed down. In the nineteenth century, a unique system of handing down performing arts was established. Known as the “Oyaji-System,” in which a head of Ryuha or school is replaced by another in a very short period, this has developed as a system that is characteristic of this region.
With a history of more than 200 years, Nose town founded a Jyoruri Theatre, in 1993. The Jyoruri theatre, showing its newly born activities by its new spelling as “Jyoruri”, not usual “Joruri”, has created its original plays since the 1990s. In the theatre, Nose Joruri has also started using puppet dolls and has presented Ningyo Joruri, thus creating its new tradition by adopting traditional Joruri. In 2006, a Ningyo Joruri theatrical group, called Rokkakuza, was established. The group has actively promoted its activities ever since.
