More Information:Since ancient times, the Japanese people have cherished the beauty of nature’s four seasons. While the tea ceremony and seasonal awareness remain closely linked in modern times, this connection became consciously emphasized only after the Edo period began, influenced by the spread of haikai poetry during the Genroku era.
Just as words expressing the seasons were valued in haikai poetry, many tea utensils bear inscriptions (“mei”) that evoke the unique charm of each season. This exhibition introduces tea utensils whose inscriptions feature words that evoke the seasons, framed within the broad context of spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
Approximately 40 pieces will be on display during the exhibition period. Through the inscriptions, experience the tea utensils and feel the thoughts of tea masters as they contemplated the changing seasons.
